Meet the Team
I began racing as a competitive outlet after finishing my pro soccer career and quickly fell in love with the sport of adventure racing. I co-founded ARMD when I moved to Baltimore in 2005 and soon found the best teammates ever. Looking back on over 12 years of racing I've had some of my best times when sleep deprived and pushing further on bike, foot and boat through grueling terrain and extreme temperatures that seem crazy to a "normal" person. My racing days are currently few and far between due to a young family, but I am excited to show my girls what adventure really is and eventually get back to competitive racing.
I started adventure racing after watching the crazy people doing the Eco Challenge adventure race. I had been riding mountain bikes for a few years prior to that so figured it would be a fun to do. I started racing just going out as a personal challenge to see if I could complete the full course. I connected with ARMD after a few years and have been racing with the team ever since. I am one of the navigators on the team and really have a lot of fun making sure we are going in the right direction. I really enjoy a race that has challenging navigation, the harder the better.
I started adventure racing in 2009 following many years of mountain biking and triathlon. After knowing ARMD as friends and competitors for most of that time, I was honored to join the team a couple years ago. Living in Annapolis gives me ample paddling opportunities, and I often race downhill, XC, cyclocross, and BMX. AR offers special gifts like racing under the stars at night, seeing the sun come up, and just being out in the woods…but especially the people I’ve met. Some of the best examples are on this team and that’s why I enjoy training and racing with them so much. It’s been a blast and I’m looking forward to more adventures in the future!
I have been racing with ARMD since 2009 and have competed in over 30 races races with the team ranging from six hours to four days. My finishes have ranged everywhere from first place to last place and many positions in between! What do I love about the sport? Spending all day in nature with your best friends! I enjoy the physical challenge of endurance racing, but what has addicted me to the sport are all of the mental challenges: navigation, team dynamics. route selection, gear planning, plotting, dealing with inclement weather and good old fashioned gritting your teeth and pushing on. I love my ARMD teammates, we've accomplished much together and had lots of fun along the way!
We are a bunch of like-minded people that love to go outside and challenge ourselves against whatever course the race director can dream up.
